We get up in good time because we want to hike up to the Segantini Hut. From Muottas Muragl it’s quite stubborn, but we are rewarded – once we reach the top – with a paradisiacal view. The team at the Segantini Hut is cleaning the round tables and setting up the wooden tables. This is the place to be! Far away from the hustle and bustle, with a panoramic view that you have to take in from every angle at 2731 metres above sea level. Apart from us, only two hikers are sitting with a coffee and enjoying the peace and quiet. We take a look around the hut, which is hard to beat for charm: wood-burning stove, pictures of the great master, even old photographs, such as Giovanni Segantini’s death room from 1899. Moving!
At the buffet, two fresh wafers (apricots and plums) and the homemade chocolate cake are ready. Meanwhile, the Bündner barley soup is simmering in the kitchen and will certainly find many takers later. There will also be pancakes with Salsiz and mountain cheese, fried eggs with bacon or pork sausages, a bouillon for veggies or sweets such as Biberli, Schoggi & Co. Local beers and wines from the area as well as a wide range of teas, also with a shot (hunter’s tea), schnapps and cold soft drinks are on the drinks menu.
For a moment, we wish for some paint, an easel and above all talent to capture these impressions up here. We leave it at dreaming, take a few more photos and move on…
